Scarperia is a medieval village located just outside of Florence, known throughout the world as “the city of cutting irons”.

The production of knives and cutting tools is an activity that has been passed down since the fifth century, and even today, the handcrafted knives of Scarperia are still known and appreciated worldwide.

Saladini knifemakers have been working in Scarperia since the mid-nineteenth century, and still today the passion of our ancestors lives on through our handcrafted knives. We combine the tradition of handmade goods with a modern design, a distinctive characteristic featured in all our products.

The Saladini family was already present as master cutlers in Scarperia in 1841, as the historical archives of the Pieve di Fagna attest. In 1984, Leonardo Saladini, born in 1969, started his adventure as a Knife maker in his uncle Marcello Azzini’s company. Over time he learned the methods and secrets of the work and in 1995, he felt mature enough to start his own personal choice, to open his own art workshop, with the dream of being able to make an exclusive and personalized line of knives . The project came to life and in 1997 Saladini opened his workshop in via Solferino, a historic street with a lot of cutlery shops in the past. Leonardo has grown the company brand over time, renewing its tradition and currently deals with the commercial sector.

In 2002 Giacomo Cecchi (born 1974) joined Saladini. During his studies in architecture for design, from 1996 to 1998 he took part in two professional courses to pass on the precious teachings of the art of cutting tools to young people, obtaining the certificates of “master cutler” and “artistic metal working”. The masters who taught Giacomo were Marcello Azzini and Renzo Berti, two true master cutlers both gifted with refined ingenuity and precision, who knew how to transmit their art, transforming it into a passion for this work. This collaboration was born from the friendship with Leonardo Saladini, and today Giacomo designs and creates the new models.
